the fire within

Category: glow / Tag: black light, cool, fire, glow in the dark / 1 comment

the fire withinThis was the best glow-in-the-dark piece I’ve done so far. We started around 2pm and finished with the shoot close to 2am.

Unfortunately, I didn’t do a good job photographing it and most of the pictures were blurry. i need to work on that.

I did this image, using one of the pictures that are in focus and combining it with the back side of the painting (the wings) which is not visible from this angle.

I have a mixed feeling about this final image. I like how the fire adds a lot of energy and adds a layer of narrative, but it also distract from the body and somewhat tacky. I would appreciate some feedback on this.

stars after mucha

Category: tribute to old masters / Tag: alphonse mucha, art nuovo, fine art, stars / Add Comment

stars after muchaThis is a painting based on one of Alphonse Mucha’s paintings from his “stars” series.

I wasn’t really happy with the painting itself. It was due to lack of preparation and very limited time for painting. Not an excuse, just pointing out what caused the unsatisfactory quality.

However, I had a good time editing the picture. The treatment of the background and editing enhance the painting and push it to the next level. This is the reason why I’m showing this here.

Most likely I will redo this painting, but keep the same direction for the editing.

Flyer_Final_For_EmailI will be doing body painting at the opening party for a sexy shop in Williamsburg called SHAG (weloveshag.com).

SHAG is a cool store featuring work by local artists and designers.

At this event, I will be painting 2 models, 1 male and 1 female. I will also paint anyone who wants to get painted that evening. So if you want to experience body painting, this is a good opportunity for you. If you’re not sure, you can just get something small covering your arm or neck.

Location of the store:
108 Roebling (at N 6th st.)
Brooklyn, NY 11211

Body painting for Allison Sarofim Halloween party

Category: event photos / Tag: basquiat, halloween, party, skeleton / Add Comment

basquiats_skeletonThis is the Basquiat’s skeleton that I did for Allison Sarofim’s Halloween party.

It’s based on the character that appear over and over again in scribly child-like paintings of Jean-Michel Basquiat.

The aggressive lines and sketchy looking shapes made this piece easy and fun to create.

This piece took us (myself with the assistance of Erin Diggs) 2 hours to create, which was much faster than what we anticipated.

Stormy, the wonderful model we worked with, did an amazing job with the hair that added so much to this piece.

dali's persistence of memory for carson daly pieceAs I mentioned in an earlier post (I will appear on Carson Daly show ), a producer from Carson Daly show and his crew shot a profile piece of me as body painter few weeks ago.

That profile piece will be aired this coming Friday night (10/30) or technically early Saturday morning (10/31) because the air time is 1:35am EST.

To the left is the final painting from that shoot. The image quality is not that great because I shot with a point-and-shoot since at that time I hadn’t moved my photo gear from California, but I think it’s good enough to give you an idea of what I painted.
